unlock the theory behind custom Hair Extensions
Rooted in anatomy, physics, and intention — VAULT teaches extension artists to think, adapt, and build custom solutions no one else can replicate.
The Class of 2026 is starting August 2026
A BEADED ROW HAIR EXTENSION CERTIFICATION
The Certification That Changes How You Think Behind the Chair
A multi-class, in-person, hands-on certification that teaches you an adaptive technique — so you can offer truly custom solutions for every guest who sits in your chair.
You'll leave with the understanding to see each client differently, the confidence to adapt on the spot, and the skills to deliver results that are entirely your own.
Because when you understand the why, the how becomes yours.
inside the vault
-
An introduction to the course, the certification process, and the tools in your kit. Before anything else, you'll understand exactly what this certification requires of you, and everything you'll walk away with. -
Before you learn the technique, you have to become the person ready to use it.
Strengthen the muscles you rely on behind the chair, correct your posture, and build the habits that make extension work a long, fulfilling career. Learn to absorb new information with intention, receive feedback as fuel, and show up ready to grow.
Because your clients aren't just trusting you with their hair. They're trusting you with their confidence, their vulnerability, and their story. This is where you start becoming worthy of that.
-
A thorough study of the bone structure of the skull and the muscle and fascia systems of the head — and how they influence every placement decision you make and every client experience you create. -
The most important surface you'll ever work on. You'll study the microbiome, elasticity, follicle structure, scalp conditions, and hair loss — and learn how to have scalp care conversations that build trust and protect your clients long term.
-
You'll learn how to read a scalp with precision — analyzing density, texture, and health to determine exactly where and how to place your rows. The difference between a good install and a great one starts here.
-
The foundation of every flawless install. You'll develop the habits and eye for sectioning that keep your work consistent, intentional, and replicable across every client.
-
The science behind why beaded rows work — weight distribution, tension, load bearing, and the physical principles that make a row safe, comfortable, and built to last.
-
From concept to execution. Beadwork, pinning, and stitching — every step and decision broken down and practiced until the technique becomes second nature.
-
A repeatable, thorough consultation process that protects you, educates your client, and sets every appointment up for success before you ever pick up a bead.
-
You'll learn how color and texture work together to create a blend that looks and moves like natural hair, and why one without the other is never enough.
You'll also learn to understand extension hair at a deeper level: how to source it, how to determine quality, and how to make confident decisions about the hair you're putting your name behind.
-
How to structure maintenance appointments, what to look for at each visit, and how to read a grow-out to make smart, informed decisions about improving your next install.
-
What to do when something doesn't go as planned. Slippage, banding, matting, client concerns — you'll learn to identify the problem, address it, and prevent it from happening again.
-
How to prep, color, and customize your wefts before they ever touch a client's head. The work that happens before the install is what makes the install exceptional.
-
The finishing work that makes an install disappear. Weight removal, layering, blending, and styling techniques that showcase your work and send every client out the door feeling like themselves.

Why it exists
Most extension education on the market teaches one method, one technique, one way of doing things. It’s one size fits most — and as we know, that's never truly the case.
You spend some time watching videos, a few days behind a mannequin, a certificate, and a send-off. You learn the how. Nobody teaches you the why.
And for a while, it works. Until it doesn't.
Until a client sits in your chair, and the method you worked so hard to learn, doesn’t work for them. If you don't understand the why, you don’t have the knowledge to safely adapt. Instead of offering a solution, you turn them away after they’ve already invested in you and trusted you with something deeply personal.
Here's the truth: most extension methods on the market were built for either hand-tied wefts or machine wefts. But with the creation of genius wefts or hybrid wefts, the game has changed. When the materials you’re working with change, your technique should too.
Unfortunately, most brands won't teach you the why. Because if you understand the why, you might not need them anymore. You might stop singing their praises and start thinking for yourself. Knowledge is power, and a lot of people in this industry are afraid of what you'd do with it.
Most extension clients don't have perfect hair. They come to you with fine hair, with hair loss, with years of disappointment and the hope that you'll be different. In an industry full of variables, It's foolish to believe one technique is ever the answer.
Vault is an in-person, hands-on, multi-day experience because everyone learns differently, and sometimes a video isn't enough. Your brain needs to receive information, apply it, let it sink in, and then build upon it. That's how you stop just doing extensions and start truly understanding them.
Vault exists because the industry needed an education that teaches you to think, not just to do.
Question everything.
Question Everything
Vault was created to break away from the noise. This isn't a collection of secrets, something meant to gatekeep, or another certification that leaves you wanting more.
It's the theory behind why we do what we do as extension artists. Because when you understand why, you stop copying and start creating.
Meet the founder
Hey There, I’m Haley Darby!
Owner of The Color Lounge, stylist of eleven years, and the educator and founder of Vault Extensions.
My career started on a competition stage. State-level wins, a national competition, and an early lesson in what it actually takes to be successful in the industry. My first four years were spent obsessing over blonding and learning the strategies to build my business. In 2019 I started dabbling in extensions. In 2020 I earned my first certification. And in 2021 I opened The Color Lounge in the town I'd dreamed of living and working in since I was a little girl — with a vision to provide sustainable careers to talented artists and make an impact.
The most rewarding part of my new job as “the boss” was being a mentor. The careers of every artist who walked through those doors fell into my hands, and I don't take that lightly. My mission as a leader has always been to be the support system and mentor I once needed — to inspire, guide, and challenge the people around me. Each artist I've had the honor of loving still holds a piece of my heart and helped shape who I am today.
As I guided my team through their hair extension journeys, I started running into questions I couldn't answer. I noticed gaps in the work I was doing, and I hate unanswered questions. So I invested in every extension education I could find.
Nothing went deep enough.
Then I remembered a bridge-building game from STEM class in middle school and something clicked. Physics was the missing piece. As a curious gal with ADHD, I went down the rabbit hole starting with Newton's laws of motion and ending up in structural engineering.
But my clients' scalp is living skin attached to a human that moves. So I started testing, adjusting, and listening. What I discovered was that to truly understand extensions, you have to combine physics, engineering, and anatomy. That was the key to unlocking a new way of thinking, and a new way of creating.
That's how Vault was born.

FAQs
i already have another certification. Why do I need this?

Most education teaches you one way of doing things, with little to no customization. Vault gives you the tools to create your own way of doing things for each individual who sits in your chair. They teach you to copy and paste; we teach you to think and create.

WHAT THE PEOPLE are saying
“I didn’t realize how much my hair affected how I saw myself until Haley completely transformed it. Her Vault Extensions method is unlike anything I’ve experienced. You can tell it wasn’t created overnight—it was built with dedication, passion, education, and an incredible amount of care. She doesn’t just focus on making your hair look beautiful; she makes sure your natural hair stays healthy, and every detail is customized to you. The result is hair that feels like it’s always been yours. Haley has an incredible gift, but what makes her so special is the heart behind it. She genuinely wants every woman who sits in her chair to leave feeling more confident than when she walked in. And that’s exactly what she did for me. Thank you, Haley, for creating the Vault Extensions method and for sharing your talent with so many women.”
Vault Extension Client
"Like so many stylist I had taken extension education before, but they felt cookie-cutter with their one-size-fits-all approach. Once I started working on real clients, I realized those methods didn’t work for everyone, and I never felt confident using them. Not only did I waste time and money, but I lost confidence.
But then Vault was born and completely changed that.
Haley created an education that goes far beyond learning just a technique. From physics and anatomy to geometry and weight distribution, every lesson teaches you how to customize an install for each individual client while prioritizing the health of their scalp and hair.
I’m incredibly grateful to be the very first Vault certified stylist. I can’t wait to transform more clients with healthy, customized installs and, one day, help educate other stylists to do the same.”
— First Vault Artist
“I’ve always loved the idea of hair extensions, so when I had the opportunity to earn my first certification, I jumped at it. At the time, I thought the method I learned was revolutionary. It was detailed, structured, and seemed like the best option available.
However, when guest came back for maintenance, I began noticing irritated scalps and hairs that had been pulled from excessive tension. That’s when I realized extensions shouldn’t hurt or cause damage.
Finding Vault completely changed my perspective. It taught me that extensions should be comfortable, healthy, and customized to each individual. No two clients are the same, and their extension method shouldn’t be either.
Vault is the most comprehensive extension education I’ve experienced. As someone who values precision and attention to detail, I love that there is no guesswork. Every technique is intentional, allowing me to create a personalized installation that prioritizes both hair health and beautiful results.

About This Course
Vault is not a method. It's a new way of thinking. This certification teaches you the scalp science, anatomy, physics, and technique behind custom hair extensions — so you can create solutions for every client who sits in your chair, not just the ones who fit a formula.
Over five class days, you'll build a deep foundation in extension theory and apply it hands-on in real time. Every concept is taught before it's practiced, and every practice session builds on what came before. You’ll have a few guided independent assignments to practice and apply what you’ve learned outside the class. By the end, you won't just know how to do extensions. You'll understand why every decision you make either works or doesn't.
